Indigenous Pop / Jazz / Soul Singer to Release Debut EP November 2016
ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT PRESS RELEASE
FOR RELEASE NOVEMBER 17th, 2016
XANDRAH (Alexandra Thomson) is an up and coming Indigenous singer-songwriter based out of Saskatoon, SK. The creation of her debut EP titled “Vinyl Secrets,” written and produced alongside instrumentalist JFP (Justin Frank Pelan), is set to release November 17th, 2016 on all electronic music platforms. The compilation is a showcase of sultry vocals that overlay a jazz atmosphere and smooth hip- hop beats. Xandrah’s vocal melodies of love and lust are infused with JFP’s electro-synth inspired undertones, with influence from artists such as Sade, Erykah Badu, Solange, Lorde, and Lauryn Hill.
The unreleased EP Vinyl Secrets has placed Xandrah as a Top 10 finalist on ImagineNative’s 2016 Bull’s Eye Music Contest. The EP also features hip-hop artists from the Indigenous music scene, including Cody Coyote (2015 Indigenous Music Award Nominee) and local Saskatoon spoken word poet, Illustrated. Xandrah & JFP have performed together as university students for several years, being featured at local music events including the Regina Jazz Festival, the U of S Aboriginal Arts Festival, and the EcoBash Fundraiser Event.
“Citing Influences like Norah Jones and Sade, Thomson’s vocals are just as smooth as those of either singer; however, it also shows signs of being incredibly powerful.”
